From the Desk of the Vice President in Charge of Diddly-Squat...
(OK, so I don't really have a desk, I just want to sound important.)
I have a friend who sends what he calls Inter-Galactic memos. They are usually well thought out, but lengthy discussions of what he is thinking about at the time. This page is no such thing, but just an attempt to share the random and "trivial" thoughts that rumble around in my head.
For instance, a few months ago, I was watching the news on TV and there was a report on the death of Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person to reach the summit of Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world. I noted that the report failed to mention Tenzing Norgay, the Nepalese Sherpa who accompanied Hillary. This was interesting, considering the fact that Norgay was the second man only because he wasn't the expedition leader. However, it was primarily because of his knowledge and experience that they made it to the top. Until that time, Norgay had spent more time on Everest than any other person. And before Hillary, Norgay was the person who had gone higher on the mountain than any other, within 1000 feet of the summit.
That seems to be the way things go in life. How many times have you seen the assistant do all of the work and the boss get the credit? That's why I think the person who has 10 assists in a basketball game is just as important as the person who scores 10 points.
Other trivial matters:
- What do Archie Leach, Marion Morrison, Gwyllyn Ford, Issur Danielovitch Demsky
have in common? They were all famous actors (Cary Grant, John Wayne,
Glenn Ford and Kirk Douglas!)
- The mottos of five states reference God:

"God enriches" - Arizona

"Nothing without Deity" - Colorado

"In God We Trust" - Florida

"With God, All things are Possible - Ohio

"Under God the People rule" - South Dakota
- The Hawaii state motto is the only state that doesn't have an English or latin motto:

"Ua mau ke ea o ka aina i ka pono" -

"The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness"
